Fingerprinting Information

On July 14, 2014 the Norwell School Committee adopted policy ADDA: Background Checks and reviewed the associated regulations for policy ADDA August 18, 2014.  The policy is in response to G.L. Chapter 459 of the Acts of 2012, An Act Relative to Background Checks signed into law by Governor Patrick on January 10, 2013.  The policy requires all individuals who have direct and unmonitored contact with students to have a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) check and a SAFIS (Statewide Applicant Fingerprint Identification Services) check conducted prior to any unmonitored contact with students.

CORI Information

Massachusetts requires all schools to conduct criminal background checks (CORI) every three years on current and prospective employees, volunteers, school transportation providers, and others who may have direct and unmonitored contact with children. Norwell Public Schools has been certified by the Criminal History Systems Board to access such information, and all parents who wish to volunteer or chaperone school activities are required to complete an authorization form for a CORI check.

Since it may take several days to conduct and review such a check, parents who have not had a CORI check through Norwell Public Schools during the past three years may wish to do so at the beginning of the school year. With your completed CORI check kept in our confidential file, you will then be able to volunteer or chaperone any time during the year. CORI checks require proof of identity in the form of government issued photographic identification such as a driver’s license.

Click HERE to fill out a CORI form.  Once the information is filled in, you will need to print the form and bring it, along with a photo ID, to the central office or your child's school.  CORI forms are also available in each school office and at the central administration office.
