Welcome to the NMS Math Team!
We will be competing in two math competitions this year. Each month, we will take the five question Math Olympiad challenge. The Math Olympiad is a global competition with students from across the US as well as other countries participating. The second competition is the Math Counts competition. We will prepare for this during math team meetings, then attend the regional competition in Plymouth in early February. We could possibly move onto the state competition from there! You can find out more information about either of these programs by accessing their websites through the links to the left.
Our Math Team meeting dates for the year are:
Dates with an asterisk are for the Math Olympiad contests. These contests have to be taken at the same time by all students. So, if you are absent on one of those dates, you cannot make up the Math Olympiad. Your total Math Olympiad score will be cumulative, so missing one of the monthly contests will hurt your score.
Optionally, students may form a team of 4 and enter the Math Counts Video Challenge. Teams must base their video on a problem from the Math Counts Competition Series 2014-2015 School Handbook, which can be downloaded here
. Detailed information about the challenge is available on the Math Counts website. Click here to see the video created by last year's 8th graders on the Math Team, which made it to the semi-final round! http://videochallenge.mathcounts.org/videos/pythagoras-takes-trip
