Mu Alpha Theta
Mu Alpha Theta is the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society. Their website says they are "dedicated to inspiring keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school and two-year college students."Mu Alpha Theta provides a way for NHS to recognize and encourage those students who enjoy and excel in mathematics. It also provides a national competition through the Log 1 contest.Students may apply to be full or associate members. Full members must be enrolled in Honors Trig or a more advanced math class. They also must be regular participants in math competitions and meet certain GPA requirements. Associate members will be good future candidates for full membership but are only in Honors Algebra 2 or Honors Geometry. In 2011 eleven students were inducted as charter members.
