    Vinal PTO Volunteer Committee Descriptions
    The Vinal School PTO could not help our school without the many dedicated and talented parent and teacher volunteers. Below is a list of volunteer positions (and a general idea of time commitment). A list of current committee chairs can be found here.
    Please consider volunteering in one (or more!) of the many ways below, or contact us at vinalpto@gmail.com if you have an idea for a new program or event you would like to organize. We are always looking for fresh, new ideas.
    Kindergarten Popsicle Social (August)
    A special event that takes place prior to the start of school to welcome Kindergartners and their parents to Vinal School, allowing them to meet new friends and connect.
    BooHoo Yahoo Breakfast (First Day of School)
    Coordinate a 'welcome back to Vinal' event for parents to meet and reconnect. Committee members setup and cleanup the event. Especially welcoming for parents with children entering the school for the first time.
    School Pictures (Sept/Oct)
    We always could use extra hands with this event. It's a special fundraiser for Vinal School. Serve as the contact between Vinal and the photographer. Volunteers assist the students and the photographer on school picture day to help ensure all of those bright, smiling portraits, and in the collection of checks and distribution of pictures.  
    School Directory (Sept/Oct)
    The Vinal School Directory contains students' phone numbers, addresses, and teacher information to facilitate contact between Vinal School Families.
    Scholastic Book Fair (Oct)
    This is both a fundraiser and a great way to keep our kids reading. Volunteers help with setting up books, assisting children with book selection, and collecting payments during the book fair. 
    Beautification / Plant Sale (All Year)
    Volunteers ensure the area outside of the school is in good condition by coordinating fall and/or spring cleanup days. Volunteers also implement any other outdoor projects, plan seasonal plantings, and direct the upkeep of the landscaping around the school and playgrounds. Coordinate annual Plant Sale (May) and decorate the school seasonally.
    5th Grade Send Off (All Year)
    Organize the end of year party for the 5th graders including a presentation and yearbook, where volunteers help compile photos, proofread, create collage pages and “brainstorm” to ensure a terrific memory for each student graduating from Vinal.
    Teacher / Staff Appreciation (Throughout the Year)
    The PTO shows appreciation to our teachers & staff several times throughout the year. Schedule parent volunteer signups for food/refreshment donations and coordinate setup and cleanup of the event.  Events include a "welcome back" luncheon at the start of the year, or surprise afternoon treats during fall/spring conferences.
    Family Events (Throughout the Year)
    Organize fun events that give families and kids a chance to socialize with others in the Vinal community. Current events include Ice Cream Social, Family Movie Night, Bingo Night, to name a few. 
    Other Community Support Events (Throughout the Year)
    Help organize one (or more!) of the PTOs fun events including Stay & Play, Family Movie Night, Bingo Night, Cole/Vinal Sports Games, etc. 
    Ongoing Fundraising / Rewards Programs (Throughout the Year)
    Be part of our shopper rewards fundraising efforts. Assist with promotion and shopper registration. Coordinate collection and submission of Stop & Shop A+, Box Tops for Education, etc. to get funds for Vinal School that enhance your children's learning experience. The School earns thousands of dollars each year from these programs.
    Art Works Fundraiser (April/May)
    The Square 1 Art annual fundraiser benefits the Vinal PTO which directly enhances each student's experience at Vinal Elementary. Assist the art teacher as she leads each class to create a work of art which families can order products like mugs, pillows, note cards, etc. out of their artists' creation. Volunteers will help prepare and organize the artwork for each class. It's a fun way to help out and see how special art class and NO art skills necessary!
    Norwell Gear / Spirit Sale (Fall/Spring)
    The Norwell Gear sale offers children and their families the opportunity to purchase Norwell-branded clothing. Assist in the sale of spirit gear. Volunteers will assist with sorting orders and delivering them to parents/students. 
    Field Day (June)
    This is a student event held during the school day. Volunteers may help with general coordination and/or set up and man stations. Work with the School administration and the PTO to create a fun day of curriculum-based outdoor games. Coordinate volunteers, lunches and other support for the day.
    Library Coordinator (All Year)
    Help schedule parent volunteers to organize the school library and assist the Librarian during school hours.
    Celebration Books (All Year)
    Each year the PTO offers Celebration Books Program through which books are added to the school library in celebration of the birthday of a Vinal student.  Parents can purchase a book for the library which will bear the honoree's name on a personalized label inside the cover of the book. This committee works with the school librarian to help to promote and facilitate the process. 
    Parent Social (1x/year)
    Help organize a casual, adult social where parents can get together and socialize. 
    Room Parent Volunteer (All Year)
    Work with the in-class room parents to ensure that volunteer needs throughout the school are fulfilled. Work with school secretary to compile a room parent contact list at the beginning of the year.
    Grant Writing (All Year)
    Have experience writing grants?  Please help us uncover grant opportunities and apply for them.
