Welcome to Kindergarten
Hello, and welcome to Kindergarten in room 8! I hope this note answers some of your questions and concerns for this year. I’m excited to be your child’s teacher and I’m looking forward to a full day and full year of growth, independence, exploration and fun!
SCHOOL HOURS: Full day 8:55-3:20 Half day 8:55-12:30
COMMUNICATION: The best way to reach me is by email or by phone at 781-659-8820. Notes via the backpack folder are also a great way to get a message to me at the start of our school day!
EMAIL: Please email me at: firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions or would like to set up a phone call or meeting. Also, all future communication will be sent through email. Please let me know the address or addresses you would like my emails to be sent.
CLASS WEBSITE: https://www.norwellschools.org/Domain/397
BUS NOTES: If your child is NOT taking the bus home, or you will be picking him/her up, I MUST HAVE A NOTE STATING THIS or you will have to contact the office and they will send me the message. I collect all notes and folders (I will provide you with a communication folder at the Open House) when the children arrive to school each day. Also, your child will be given a bus tag at the Open House (in their folder), please have your child wear it on their backpack to school each day! THANKS!
VOLUNTEERS: Extra hands are always welcome and needed in Kindergarten. Classroom volunteering will begin in mid to late October through mid May. All classroom volunteers need to have a valid CORI and fingerprinting. Forms and instructions are available on the Norwell Schools website. On curriculum night, 9/12/17 at 6:30 pm, I will have more specifics and answer any questions.
LUNCH & SNACKS: Each day your child will also need one simple, healthy, nut-safe snack and drink to be eaten in the classroom. If your child is staying for the full day they will also need a separate lunch (nut products are allowed in the cafeteria) or there is the daily option to buy lunch or milk (lunch including milk is $2.75 or just milk is .60 cents). The lunch menu is posted on the Vinal school website. Sometimes when they get to school they are unsure of what to do, and it can become unsettling for them. To minimize this, if your child is buying lunch in the first few weeks of kindergarten please send in a note with your child’s lunch choice for that day.
BIRTHDAYS: Birthdays are a very special event for your child and will be recognized in our classroom. If you choose to send in simple treat for sharing (pencils, stickers or other small non food items) the students love to give and receive them.
REST TIME: Please pack a large bath towel for the children to use during our rest time each day. For 10 minutes each day after lunch the children lay down to rest their bodies to prepare for the second half of our day. The towels stay in class and every once in a while are sent home to be laundered and returned.
WISH LIST ITEMS: All of our school supplies are provided by the town but there are a few items that are helpful in our classroom. These items that are always appreciated to begin our school year: gallon size ziplock bags, baby wipes, tissues, and liquid soap. If you are able to donate one item it would be greatly appreciated!
OPEN HOUSE: 9/6/17 from 9:30-10:15 in room 8. Parents and students are welcome to come visit the classroom, meet new friends and have a practice ride on the school bus. Kindergartens first day of school is 9/7/17.
Finally, I hope this has helped to answer some questions you may have about the upcoming year. I am looking forward to our year together. A curriculum night for parents will be held on Tuesday, September 12th at 6:30, so mark your calendars! This is an opportunity to find out what your child will be learning this year and to answer any questions about kindergarten and the Vinal School. I look forward to a happy experience for both you and your child at the Vinal School.
