    Reading / Language Arts
During the month of September, we will be working on establishing routines for Reader's Workshop, Writer's Workshop and Daily 5.  Students will work independently, in pairs, and in small groups at a variety of activities in the classroom including reading to self, reading with peers, word work (phonics), writing, listening to books on CDs, and Lexia.  Activities are differentiated so that each student is working at his/her own level.
We will be reviewing letters and letter sounds for the first week and then will start our phonics program by introducing short vowels.

During September we will be working primarily with numbers 1-10, writing numbers and number expressions, exploring addition and subtraction, finding different ways to model a number using tallies, dots, ten frames, and number words.

    Science/Social Studies

We will start our social studies with units about United States Symbols, Seasons, and Apples!
