Welcome

    Hello!

At Cole School, we are committed to providing numerous social-emotional learning opportunities. You can read more about the materials we use by following the links on the left-hand side of this page.

Daily, students use Calm Classroom exercises to practice mindfulness and self-regulation. Students can earn gems or be nominated as a "Magnificient Meerkat" for showing consistently expected behavior and kindness to others.

Weekly, I teach all students a 20 minute lesson from the Kindness in the Classroom curriculum. This curriculum covers six units: Respect, Caring, Inclusiveness, Integrity, Responsibility, and Courage. Teachers also provide bullying prevention lessons from Second Step to all students every fall.

Every month, all students attend Cole Connections, where they meet with a small group and teacher to discuss a book and practice related skills. Our Connections focus this year is on the Habits of Mind.

Community Meetings also occur monthly, which is a chance for our whole school community and families to come together and review the Kindness in the Classroom theme of that month. Students help plan and lead these meetings to develop their leadership skills.

For more specific needs at the classroom or individual level, teachers reach out to me or our school psychologist for targeted interventions and support, like small skill-building groups, counseling, and classroom lessons.

Reach out anytime if you have a concern about your child, or have questions about how we can best support them at Cole!

    Thanks,

    Mrs. Walsh
