General Statement
As
mentioned in the Principal’s Welcome, we continue the important work started by
the Education Reform Act of 1993. District educators have worked diligently to
“Norwellize” the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks with curriculum guides
developed in the areas of English/Language Arts, Word Study/Spelling, Math,
Social Studies, Science, and Technology. Copies of these documents are available
to borrow from our Parent Resource Center. The Silver Burdett and Ginn
literature program is used as the core of the reading program along with
selections from the literacy closet. The Recipe for Reading multi-sensory word
study program is used in grades K-3 and reviewed and expanded upon in grades
four and five. We are currently in the third year of implementation of the SRA
Everyday Mathematics program—with very positive feedback and results.
Teachers meet district wide at grade level during four early release days each
year to strive for consistency of curriculum and to share expertise in methods
and materials. Last year’s focus was the newly adopted math program. Once
again this
year’s focus is technology.
