| Description of Activity:
What is the learning experience? What will teachers and students do during
the course of the activity? Through what performances or products will
students demonstrate what they know and are able to do? Students are learning about inventions in the 1800s and impact these inventions had on the country. They will have to research skills as well as thinking (categorizing) skills. In this activity, students will collect information about a variety of inventions in the 1800s (inventor, year invented, region of USA that the invention was used, sector of the economy that would use this invention). They will create a timeline using the TimeLiner software. On the timeline they will have to show the information about these inventions by using the features of the program (e.g. categorize the information with different formats).

Teacher Tips and Notes:
What strategies are recommended regarding logistics, preparation, classroom
management, or other implementation concerns? It is best if students collect all the information about the inventions and categorize the information before creating their displays on TimeLiner. Also a familiarity with TimeLiner, including importing pictures, is necessary. Lastly, in printing the final documents, it is important to note that some images taken from the Internet do not transfer well and color printers would definitely help the displays (especially because students like to use color to distinguish different categories). |
