| Description of Activity:
What is the learning experience? What will teachers and students do during
the course of the activity? Through what performances or products will
students demonstrate what they know and are able to do? Students first examine their own diet. then redesign the USDRA's Food Pyramid to reflect nutrition expert's latest advise and share their findings with their classmates. Objectives: Examine the USDRA's Food Pyramid; Redesign the pyramid to reflect their typical diet. Research the different color categories of fruits and vegetables in the computer lab and identify recipes that feature these fruits and vegetables. Synthesize their understanding of the benefits of colorful fruits and vegetables by redesign the USDRA's Food Pyramid to prioritize fruits and vegetables, sharing their research with their classmates. Assignment: Students are in charge of creating an ad campaign promoting fruits and vegetables rich in color to the public, how will they persuade? Differential Learning Choices: Poster Campaign, Rap, Jingle or Song (see www.dole.com), PowerPoint Presentation, Brochure with recipes, nutritional facts, history and production, Video Ad or Cooking Show, Grocery Demonstration with coupons, samples, recipes, and/or brochure
