Technology-Enhanced Learning Activity Summary |
| Name: Jennifer Sulc | School: Middle |
| Learning Activity Title: Science Poetry | |
| Grade Level(s): 7 | Subject Area: English/Science |
| Description of Activity:
What is the learning experience? What will teachers and students do during
the course of the activity? Through what performances or products will
students demonstrate what they know and are able to do? Students will use the internet to research a science topic. They will then use the information they have obtained to write a science poem using Microsoft Word. The best poems (as determined by an English teacher and a science teacher) are submitted to Boston College's annual Science Poetry Contest. Science poems are the students' final products. Poems will be assessed based on the following criteria. Poems must contain accurate science facts, poems must be thorough and logical, proper poetic form must be used, and correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation must be used. |

Teacher Tips and Notes:
What strategies are recommended regarding logistics, preparation, classroom
management, or other implementation concerns? This is best done as a joint unit with an English teacher and a science teacher. Each teacher ensures that the standards for his/her subject are being met. Here I have focused on the English standards. |
