Learning Activity Title: The Moon and Beyond
Grade Level(s): 6 Subject Area: Science/Technology
Description of Activity: What is the learning experience? What will teachers and students do during the course of the activity? Through what performances or products will students demonstrate what they know and are able to do?

Students will be placed into groups of 3-4. Each will be assigned a section of Chapter 19 in the science text. Groups will be responsible for creating a key terms and concepts sheet, a study guide sheet, and a poster pertaining to their section. MS Word and the Internet will be utilized to type sheets and gather poster information and pictures. Groups will present their effort's to the class and will be assessed on knowledge of subject and ability to convey said knowledge to the class.

Technology Standards Addressed: This learning activity will allow students to develop proficiency in the following Norwell Public Schools technology standards:

Describe lunar and solar eclipses, the observed moon phases and tides.  Relate them to the relative positions of the earth, moon, and sun. Earth and Space Science

Science text, Ms Word, various Internet sites

 

Teacher Tips and Notes: What strategies are recommended regarding logistics, preparation, classroom management, or other implementation concerns?

Make sure assessment rubric is clear. Periodic quizzing of information to make sure that concepts are understood. Provide practice time for presentations and discuss speaking loudly and clearly.
