| Description of Activity:
What is the learning experience? What will teachers and students do during
the course of the activity? Through what performances or products will
students demonstrate what they know and are able to do? Students will learn to use the new Kurzweil software. The initial activity will teach the student to sign in and open a scanned document. The student will learn how to : use the basic menu bar tools for reading the document, pausing the reading, adjusting volume, setting the reading speed at a comfortable pace, choose one of the many 'voices' for the reader, set the mode - continuous, self-paced, or word by word, set the reading unit - word, phrase, line, sentence, paragraph, or highlight. The student will demonstrate tool bare skills by making changes from the tool bar at the direction of the teacher. |

Which curriculum frameworks, strands, and learning standards does the
activity address? The lesson will enable the student to use Kurzweil software when accessing all curriculum frameworks as presented in their classroom and as presented in their grade level texts. Once skill has been developed using the toolbars, the student will be able to use the software to read and learn language, study guides, write and edit, take tests and quizzes, and use during research. |

Teacher Tips and Notes:
What strategies are recommended regarding logistics, preparation, classroom
management, or other implementation concerns? The initial instruction can be done in a small group. Since the software is a stand-alone (can only be used on one computer) the ability for the students in the group to practice familiarity with the software will have to be on an individual basis. |
