Technology-Enhanced Learning Activity Summary

Name: Patrick Lenz School: Vinal
Learning Activity Title: States of Matter
Grade Level(s): 3 Subject Area: Science
Description of Activity: What is the learning experience? What will teachers and students do during the course of the activity? Through what performances or products will students demonstrate what they know and are able to do?

The students will compare and contrast solids, liquids and gases based on properties of each of these three states of matter. Using the software MPower, students will create slides for each state of matter. These slides will contain the properties of each state of matter, examples of each state of matter, and appropriate graphics. The students will work in pairs and then present their slides to the rest of the class.

Technology Standards Addressed: This learning activity will allow students to develop proficiency in the following Norwell Public Schools technology standards:

Materials & Equipment: What specific software, hardware, websites, handouts, and other printed materials are involved in this activity?  Attachments included

1) MPower Software

2) Notes on properties of three states of matter (Scott Foresman Science B8 - B24)

Teacher Tips and Notes: What strategies are recommended regarding logistics, preparation, classroom management, or other implementation concerns?

Students should be knowledgeable of and have been taught about the three states of matter. This includes, but it not limited to lecturing, labs, readings and demonstrations. It would be helpful to have the students prepare this slide show after the chapter on matter and how it changes.
