Waiver
Forms for the 2005-2006 school year are now available. The NHS waiver
policy enables students who have not met a course's prerequisites to
enroll in the course. students and parents sign a contract that holds
them to the condition of having to maintain a B- or higher first term
grade.
If
the student does not maintain a B- grade, the student will be moved
to the course level for which their previous year's grade qualified.
Often times, this move generates additional class changes. For example,
a student who has to switch into a different history class because of
a waiver issue might also have to change another class as well.
Over
the past few years, close to 75% of the students who have stepped up
their course level via the waiver have met the B- requirement, and have
had continued success in those courses, reinforcing the belief that
when students commit to demanding more of themselves, they can and do
meet higher expectations and standards.
Waiver
requests must be submitted by July 15. Issues such as class size
factor into the decision.
