Senior
year is in full swing now. Students should be adjusted to their courses
and making plans for the future.
Students
who are planning to enter the work force, the military, or another non-college
alternative should see their counselors for support and guidance. We
are very interested in being a part of the future plans of all students.
College
bound seniors should be narrowing their lists. Early Decision and Early
Action deadlines usually fall within these two months, and some regular
decision deadlines are in December. Be sure to note the deadlines for
all of your colleges so that you will not be late.
By now, students should have written an essay that may be used for college
applications and should have had it reviewed by their English teachers.
Students
may still be able to retake the SAT tests in December and January, depending
on their application deadlines. Keep an eye on
registration
deadlines.
Students
who may be playing sports at a Division I or II college must be approved
through the NCAA Clearinghouse.
You can begin this process by visiting their website.
Some
procedural reminders:
Students
should see their counselor if they have not done so already. Remember
that teachers and counselors need plenty of notice to write recommendations,
usually four weeks or more. Students are responsible for providing teachers
with stamped, addressed envelopes and any required forms for each school.
Counselors need four stamps per school and any school report
forms in advance of deadlines. It is not necessary to give envelopes
to the counselor, but if you do, the envelopes must be larger than regular
business envelopes. Half size and full size envelopes are best.
Remember
to enjoy your Senior year while maintaining maximum effort.
