COURSE
DESCRIPTION
This year students will be translating and analyzing
the most famous piece of Latin Literature, Vergil’s Aeneid.
This class is an intensive course driven by the Advanced
Placement Syllabus. Hard work, dedication, and effort will
result in success in this class.
CLASSROOM
EXPECTATIONS
I expect all students
to conduct themselves in accordance with the Core Values of
Norwell High School.
Students are expected to behave politely in class. Inappropriate
language, rudeness, teasing of others, or harassment
of any kind will not be tolerated.
MATERIALS
Students will use
Barbara Weiden Boyd’s Vergil’s Aeneid
Books must be
COVERED at all times.
Students will need a
notebook, preferably a medium sized three ring binder with paper
and dividers.
Students will also
need their English-Latin dictionary.
GRADES
Grades are
determined by the percentage of points earned and are composed
of quizzes, tests, homework,
group work, projects, and class participation. Students should
keep track of their own grade by using a grade page
in their notebook.
HOMEWORK
Students will have
homework every night and on weekends; these assignments will be
a combination of studying and
completing written exercises. Students should allot a minimum
of 45-60 minutes a day for this class.
Written homework assignments will not generally be collected but
corrected by students. This practice is an essential
part to succeeding in this class.
CHEATING
Plagiarism,
cheating on quizzes and tests, or copying homework will result
in a zero (for both the lender and borrower). Students are
expected to use the Internet in a mature and responsible manner
as directed by teachers and according to the student
handbook.
TARDINESS/ATTENDANCE/MAKE UP WORK
Students are
expected to come to class on time every day. Students arriving
late to class should have a pass.
Students should be in their seat with their materials prepared
when the bell rings. Tardiness will result in loss
of points and/or detention. If a student is absent it is their
responsibility to find out what work needs to be made up.
Students will have a calendar in their notebook with the
assignments for the week to help them with make up work.
In addition, all homework assignments are posted at my web site,
which is linked to the NHS page. When a student
returns to school they should see me to arrange to make up work
either after school or during study halls. Make up work
is not done in class. Make up work that is not completed within
TEN SCHOOL DAYS or less can result in a zero.
