I. INTRODUCTION

This course is the equivalent of a third year college course and it is taught completely in Spanish. It is designed to develop a strong command of the Spanish Language in integrating the four language skills, and synthesizing written and audio materials at a high level of proficiency and accuracy and to prepare the students for the Spanish Language Advanced Placement examination in May. Those students who are successful on the AP exam may receive college standing and/or credits for their outstanding high school performance.

The curriculum product will create assessment tools that align well the student population and its needs, the Massachusetts Foreign Languages Curriculum Framework, and the requirements of Advanced Placement work.

I will divide my curriculum in four quarters, (as the school year).

In each quarter we will work on the four skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing, integrating Grammar and Culture, according with the Strands and Standards of the foreign language curriculum.

Students will be using the lab at least once a week, but it is also necessary to use the internet during homework time. The design of the AP exam is based on authentic material, such as articles online from different Spanish Speaking countries. One complete exam will be held in the lab to give the students the opportunity to feel comfortable and confident with the language laboratory and the mechanics of the test before the real exam.

Weekly assignments:

Students are expected to dedicate and average of 2 hours daily on homework. Every Monday (or the first day of a week) AP students will orally summarize a current event found in an article.

Teaching Strategies:

Students will learn new skills progressively. For instance, students will be summarizing one article in the first quarter and later, during the third quarter, comparing and synthesizing three articles, including an audio source.

Assessment:

Teacher will assess practice according to the AP Rubrics. The rubrics will be published to students and they will be using them when we do pair correction.
