Grace
Farrar Cole
was a Norwell native and
a descendant of the founding Ridge Hill family of Farrar's. Grace Emily Farrar
graduated from Norwell High School in 1917 and Bridgewater Normal School in 1919.
She began teaching near Boston, but returned to Norwell as a teacher in 1931. She
taught continuously until her retirement in 1951. In March 1954 she was elected to
the Norwell School Committee. Sadly, Mrs. Cole died about 5 weeks after a special
town meeting vote to build a new elementary school on High Street. As a tribute to
this devoted educator and local citizen of Norwell, the Norwell School Committee voted in
1956 to name the school in her honor. |
