Welcome to Guidance & Counseling

Social Health

Norwell Public Schools offers a comprehensive PK-12 guidance and support programming which includes numerous social and emotional programs, curriculum and services. The implementation of these lessons, assemblies, workshops, facilitated discussions and programs are collectively known as our "Social Health Curriculum". A culmination of many years of work and organization, the Social Health Curriculum is organized by the building-based Guidance Counselors, School Psychologists and district Behaviorist. The curriculum is spiraling in nature - meaning each year it builds upon the skills and lessons taught in previous years. Themes such as bullying, social skills, health and wellness, and internet safety are addressed each year at developmentally appropriate access points.

In order to facilitate a district-wide focus on key skills and topics, all Social Health lessons and programs are organized under a monthly theme which is celebrated and reinforced at all levels.

Social Health Monthly Themes
  • September: Safety
  • October: Wellness
  • November: The Whole Self
  • December: Understanding Differences
  • January: Understanding Ourselves
  • February: Understanding Others
  • March: Decisions & Choices
  • April: Responsibility
  • May: Global Society
  • June: Moving Forward with Success
Apart from school-based activities for students, each year Norwell Public Schools presents several parent evening programs designed specifically for parents, guardians and community members. These presentations and workshops are designed to provide information on relative topics and to build a sense of commonality and community between the school and parents. Here are some of the topics previously offered through our parent evening programs:
  • Parents and Schools as Partners Against Bullying
  • The Legal Implications of Risky Teen Behavior
  • Be Well - Stay Well - Norwell (Health & Wellness Fair)
  • Understanding the Social World of Your Child
  • Facilitating Social Skill Development in Your Child
